ZXX Typeface

The ZXX typeface might look like just another decorative font insired by CAPTCHA (an acronym for "completely automated public turing test to tell computers and humans apart"). However, after taking a closer look at it, it turns out to have a lot more meaning than meets the eye.

Designer Sang Mun came up with this typeface for his final project at the Rhode Island School of Design. The project closes in on the increasing problem of internet privacy and personal data protection from intelligence agencies and programs (like the well known PRISM), and also from groups of intruders and solo hackers.

Following the CAPTCHA method, ZXX typeface is made up of distorted letters that are difficult to process without human analytical thinking.

The name ZXX is not random at all. this alphabetic code represents texts that are not understandable or an unknown language at the library of congress. the famous Voynich manuscript (an illustrated codex hand-written in an unknown writing system), is denoted by ZXX code.

Even if the ZXX typeface was purely a decorative font, it would still be appealing to a graphic designer, great for poster design, brochure, books and many other deliverables.

There are currently six versions of the ZXX typeface: Sans, Bold, Camo, False, Noise and Xed
